It’s been quite some time, but I’m back in the saddle of designing again. It sure feels good too - I’ve missed making designs come to life. Let me introduce you to the Sunset Strip Quilt Pattern! If you’re a fan of the Sawtooth Star quilt block, I think you’re going to like this one.

Obviously, the colors and name of this pattern were inspired by the sunset. I love to watch the sun disappear over the wooded hills of the lake we frequent. The slow decent of the sun and the arrival of the stars made me want to design a quilt with many stars twinkling on the soft and almost neutral-colored sky during the golden hour. Sewing with strip piecing methodology made light work of this larger sized quilt.
This quilt has seven rows. Four of those rows consist of the polka dot sawtooth star blocks sewn completely in white on a Kona Dove background. The three colorful rows contain two different version of the larger sawtooth stars - both use just a few shades of sunset colors to make the end result visually striking. Strip piecing is used in all rows except one. It helps to assemble the blocks faster than making them one at a time. For the backing, I used Kona Curry, so bold and brilliant against the white and dove softness of the front. The striped binding adds a little extra pop.
This quilt originally appeared in Chicken Scratch magazine for Red Rooster Quilts quilt shop. When I worked there as their marketing team, I missed my creative outlet in designing. I asked to start a shop magazine - which we did for 2 whole issues. What an endeavor it is to be editor! I ended up leaving the shop, but you can still check out the second issue of the magazine (first edition sold out) and pick up a Sunset Strip Quilt Kit while they still have them!

Can you tell what brings me peace? I could sit down by the water every day. The Lakeside Sampler Quilt Pattern is super colorful and very graphic. So is the Sunset Strip Quilt Pattern, but in a more elevated and soothing way. I hope you enjoy my theme here!
